AM ABLE, Inc. has a mission: to help people with disabilities
or special needs remain at home or access the community's public buildings,
maintain their independence, and be as functional as possible.
Wheelchair accessibility includes re-positioned cabinets, roll-in showers,
wider doorways, special hardware and assistive devices, security and safety
measures, and public buildings...the list is long. AM ABLE draws on 30
years in the construction industry and adds its own specialized knowledge
of home modifications for disabled persons. AM ABLE's goal is to design
and create the most barrier-free, accessible living environment possible,
benefiting not only their client, but also the caregivers (often family
members), and life partners.
Robert D. Novick, owner and president, traces the beginnings of this specialty
to the challenges he faced many years ago trying to adapt the house of
his aging parents so they could remain at home despite their limitations.
As a California licensed general contractor, and a Fellow of the American
Board of Disability Analysts, Mr. Novick meets with his clients, their
family members and friends, attendants, and/or physical and occupational
therapists. He conducts in-home evaluations, observing the client's abilities,
discussing barriers he has identified, and then offering recommendations
for modifications of the environment. In doing so, Bob Novick provides
an assessment for prioritizing the suggested remodeling or general construction
to meet the individual's budget. Finally, he personally oversees the actual
construction by his own employees.
